“You smell good, baby.” KG to Cheryl Miller, postgame 10/27
I’ve been wondering if I’d ever be able to watch KG playing without worrying that he was going to get hurt again. Well, I’m not quite there yet, but I can say, I thought he looked pretty-pretty good tonight, a la Larry David. Maybe he lacked some explosiveness- but he played at game speed, had a couple blocks, pulled down some rebounds- and more importantly, he got knocked around pretty good and jumped right back up… Liikee that time Shaq pulled him down by the shoulders and KG jumped up banging his chest. It is in moments like this that I feel most reassured that he is, as he says, dusting cobwebs off his game.
I’d like to take this time to officially welcome Marquis Daniels, Rasheed Wallace and Shelden Williams to Boston. WELCOOOOMMMEEEEEEEEEE! They looked pretty-pretty good, too! And big ups to Shelden, for looking much better than I anticipated and doing a good job of keeping the intensity level up while he was on the floor. He’ll have a real chance to show what he’s made of, with Baby being sidelined for awhile, and I’m sure he’ll build his confidence up as he goes on.
And MARQUIS?! Love him. He played some pretty good D on Lebron- my favorite moment being his steal at the end of the first quarter. Something else that’s great about him that I hadn’t thought about is that he can give Paul rest while they’re both on the floor. With Marquis, Paul won’t always have to guard the other teams best player. They can trade off. It’s a beautiful thing. He also showed great offensive versatility- he knocked down a three, he slashed in the paint… And I loved it. Not to mention, he had great hair going while doing all of that… Which is more than I can say for ‘Sheed. But we’ll have to file ‘Sheed’s various hairstyles and wardrobe choices (think his backwards jersey and high water sweatpants ensemble at the open scrimmage this preseason) as being part of his charm. So ‘Sheed? You can wear your hair any which way you like, if you come in and hold it doooowwwnnn behind the arc and stay tuned in defensively, go ‘head with your your bad self.
A sssllloowww start that turned in to an all around solid performance. It must be said that this was vintage Paul Pierce, lulling the other team to sleep and then punishing them for it. J’adore! All of it! I’ll comment on everything else and introduce myself tomorrow. But for now, signing off and going to bed with a smile :)
